Firstly, disconnect the HDMI and other USB devices SD cards connected before performing Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. Try uninstalling the driver for it, reboot and let Windows re-detect the slot and then reinstall the drivers (make sure you have the latest drivers from Acer). If that's a no go, try booting to a Linux live CD such as Knoppix and see if that will detect the slot and read cards inserted into it.
